How much does a home solar system cost in 2026?

Hardware, installation, battery: what really drives the price — and how to avoid paying for the salesman's advertising van.

The price of a solar installation varies threefold for the same output. Here is how it actually breaks down, so you can compare quotes knowing what you are looking at.

What makes up the price

• The panels: what counts is total output in kWp (kilowatt-peak). Recent panels such as 520 Wp bifacial models produce more per square metre, including in diffuse light.
• The inverter: this is the brain. A hybrid inverter (Deye and similar) handles the panels, the house and a battery all at once — which saves replacing everything later.
• The battery (optional): the most variable item by far. LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) has become the standard: safe, long-lasting (several thousand cycles), and its price has fallen sharply.
• Installation and connection: roof mounting, DC and AC wiring, protective devices, commissioning.
• What the quote does not show you: the sales margin. With large sales-driven networks, door-to-door canvassing and advertising can account for a substantial share of the final price.

The range you will actually see

For a typical domestic self-consumption system, installed prices in France run from €1,500 to €3,000 per kWp, depending on the installer, how awkward the roof is, and the quality of the hardware. The same house can therefore receive quotes of €6,000 and €15,000 — which is exactly why you should compare line by line.

Battery: doing the real sums
